Into Africa With a Smile
After her adventures in Australia Linda returns to England on hearing of her father’s illness. Following his death she plans to ride through Africa and in 1974 begins this journey made at a time when few people venture into this continent, especially by motorcycle. Her 500cc BMW is already 17 years old and suffers many breakdowns during the trip. Sahara sand, Congo mud and an attack of malaria in Kenya all add to the thrill of this fifteen month journey and, despite the many setbacks, Linda still keeps a smile on her face. The events and people met are described with honesty and humour and the rich tapestry of the political history of Africa, at that time, is woven into the story.

Where Angels Fear to Tread: Travel Autobiography

Winter 1995/6 was horrendously wet in Castellar, Andalusia. My driveway was 4WD only and the torrential rain made it almost compulsory to stay inside so, with no other distractions, I wrote.

My adventures with Georgia March, the Canadian harpist, formed a basis for the story and I also enlarged upon my life in Spain. The book took three months to write, with pencil and scrap paper, was typed up by my sister in England who received the manuscript chapter by chapter in the post and it was completed in a year but put aside for about 15 years before I finally self published.

Three Wandering Poms: Travel diaries and story

It was only in 2005 when visiting UK to farewell my friends before departing on my overland trip that I discovered that Angie Griffin had kept a diary of our exploits together in Australia 1969-1971.

Much later in South Australia in 2013 I remembered these and had the idea of working them into a book. With Angie and her sister Jacky’s permission and help, the manuscript was completed and the book is now published.

This is to my utmost delight as it brings back fond memories and is very entertaining.

Daisies Don’t Tell: Illustrated Poetry

I have always written the occasional poem (and many songs) about the things around me and was inspired by many of the plants ,creatures and people around me in Spain.

I also started painting at this time when given a paint box by a travelling artist. When I was packing up my home in Spain with the help of a friend she saw my filed poetry collection and suggested that I made it into a book. So, with illustrations, I did,

Daisies Don’t Tell is divided into four parts and, in its way, is also a description of my life in Spain.
